Abstract
Inferring a user’s underlying interests and knowledge on the basis of observable behavior is a complex task involving a great deal of uncertainty. We demonstrate the utility of an approach that combines the theory of intuitive psychometrics (Jameson, 1992) with the techniques of Bayesian belief networks (Pearl, 1988).
